Meet Linda Faye, founder of Just4Golf!
Apr 5th 2017
Linda Faye, the owner of Just4Golf, was the first interview for my women in golf Owner Spotlight series. I've carried her line of knit golf club covers since she first started Just4Golf and it's been wonderful to see her business grow over the years. It was really interesting to learn more about her background and how her love for golf turned into a thriving business!
Q: How did you get started playing golf?
A: I had a fairly typical start to golf. I first took a lesson when visiting FL with my husband on a business trip several years ago. I ultimately would golf a try and then give it up several times because my husband would get irritated with me any time we would try to play a round together. Then I was working for a big company and at the corporate event there was a golf tournament. I decided to give golf 1 more try before giving it up for good. I found an instructor that I felt comfortable with and she and I really connected. I would not have continued with golf had I not met her!
Q: How did you transform you love of golf into a business?
A: After I started golfing I found a light pink golf bag – and I am NOT a pink person! – but I just had to have it. When I tried to find matching club covers for the bag, I couldn’t find what I wanted. So, I started knitting my own covers and all of my golfer friends told me that I should sell my covers. I knew that I couldn’t keep up with demand if I wanted to start my own golf head cover line. But, I had previously worked in product development & design and had contacts oversees who could produce my designs. The stars aligned and the timing was right to start a new business!
Q: How often do you get to play golf now?
A: Mostly just on weekends
Q: What is the golf accessory you can’t live without?
A: My HJ Glove fingerless mesh glove. My fingers poke through all the other mesh glove options! Also, the 4 yard longer tees (in green!).
Q: What is your favorite part about being a business owner?
A: I have a better quality of life now. It’s less money, but more freedom, happiness and less stress than my former corporate job. I would not trade this for anything!
Q: How do you come up with new ideas for products?
A: I look all around. Pinterest is a great inspiration for patterns and colors. I also look at magazines and catalogs. And talk to my golfing friends!
Q: What is your biggest challenge as a female business owner?
A: Golf is still very much a man’s world. Getting the attention of larger businesses & big box stores and then being taken seriously is a definite challenge as a woman.
Q: What is your favorite part of the design process?
A: Seeing the samples!!!
Q: What would you say is your greatest business accomplishment to date?
A: I’m still in business!!! It’s been 6 years now. I had a vision, I turned it into a business, and I’m able to make a living from it. That is success in my book!
Q: What is your current favorite product in your lineup?
A: The Sparkle covers! They are by far my favorite and a favorite of anyone who sees these crystal covers!
Q: Do you have any new products coming out soon?
A: I just added some new ladies golf bags this spring to test on the website. I am also working on some new head cover designs.
